We welcome partnerships with donors, development agencies, government institutions, and community stakeholders. Together, we can expand health and livelihood initiatives, empower youth, and scale sustainable, community-led solutions.

Who We Are

We are a community-based organization working with families in Eastern Uganda to improve health, strengthen livelihoods, and promote sustainable practices. Since 2010, we have partnered with communities, health facilities, and government to co-design practical, lasting solutions that help families thrive.

Health and Safe Motherhood

Livelihoods and Environment

We began our environmental work early in April 2011.  FHF partnered with schools and homes in Banda to distribute over 9,500 tree seedlings. This was a direct, practical step towards protecting the tree cover in the area.

Our Journey Since 2010: Building Healthy Families in Eastern Uganda

When the Foundation for Healthy Families (FHF) was officially registered as a Community-Based Organisation (CBO) in October 2010, we began with a simple belief: that strong families are the bedrock of a healthy community. Our journey started small in Banda Sub-county, Namayingo District, in Eastern Uganda, where we set out to address the interconnected challenges that lead to poor indicators of maternal and child health, livelihoods and economic empowerment, and the environment.

How Safe Motherhood Clubs Support Families in Banda

In Banda Town Council, the Foundation for Healthy Families (FHF) is working closely with community-led Safe Motherhood Clubs (SMCs) to improve the health and wellbeing of families. The clubs have become learning and support hubs where members share experiences, discuss maternal and child health issues, and take part in small livelihood projects that strengthen household stability. Safe Motherhood Clubs were first introduced by FHF to promote dialogue on maternal and child health, family planning, and community welfare.

Livelihoods for Health: From Chickens to Cows in Banda

Under FHF’s guidance, three Safe Motherhood Clubs were formed and supported with UGX 30,000 each to start a small poultry project. Each group bought a hen and a cock, which produced eggs and multiplied. As the number of chickens grew, members exchanged seven chickens for one goat. Over time, the goats also reproduced, and nine goats were traded for a cow. The cow became a lasting family asset, providing milk, manure, and a steady source of income to meet essential needs such as school fees and healthcare.
